Don’t Feed the (Really Large) Country Bears

What’s better than walking through Frontierland at Magic Kingdom and bumping into an old friend? Such happened to our family recently. This particular friend was in-between sets at the local music hall where he has a standing gig. It was a good time catching up.

Except, it wasn’t exactly a good time for all. My daughter, who had previously exhibited ZERO fear of meeting characters from an early age, was, at age nine, actually nervous about even getting close to Shaker Bear from Country Bear Jamboree. In fact, we had to do a lot of convincing just to get the above picture taken. To be fair, Shaker and the rest of the Country Bear walk-around characters are pretty large . Shaker even dwarfed me when standing next to him.

I mean…they are grizzly bears.

The point is, I never thought in in a million years that my 9 year old would be scared of meeting a character from one of her favorite shows at Magic Kingdom. It just goes to show that you can never predict how your children – even your older children – will react to different situations when at the parks.

Regardless, its definitely great to see the bears out meeting and greeting guests. Make it a point to stop by and see them when you’re passing through. You’ll typically see some combination of Big Al, Shaker, Wendell, and Liver Lips McGrowl. While there’s no published schedule, a cast member in the area should be able to give you a general idea of when they’ll be out.

Oh.. and remember – pictures only.
