How Much Time Does Dollywood’s TimeSaver Save?

I’m a big fan of Dollywood’s TimeSaver – the park day add-on that allows guests to skip the regular line at select attractions and shows. It has provided our family with a stress free way of touring Dollywood over the years by removing the worry over wait times.

While I think the stress removal is value enough, I’ve often wondered just how much time TimeSaver has freed up for our family. This may be something you’re interested in as well if you’re considering purchasing it for an upcoming trip.

After doing the research, it appears TimeSaver potentially saves anywhere from 2.5 to 6 hours of time waiting in line. That’s a lot of time freed up to explore more of the park, catch a few extra shows or simply enjoy more attractions.

How I Calculated

In order to calculate the potential time savings range, I did the following:

  • Pulled wait time data from thrill-data.com
  • Limited review to top eight attractions by average wait time
  • Used one TimeSaver pass for each attraction (eight available)
  • Assessed across light, moderate and heavy crowd scenarios

When Crowds are Light

Using August 2021 as our sample month for light crowds, we see the following reported average wait times (in minutes):

  1. Firechaser Express: 29
  2. Lighting Rod – 28
  3. Mystery Mine – 20
  4. Wild Eagle – 20
  5. Smoky Mountain River Rampage – 16
  6. Dragonflier – 16
  7. Tennessee Tornado – 15
  8. Thunderhead – 10

Using TimeSaver in this light crowd scenario potentially saves 148 mins or nearly 2.5 hours of waiting in line.

Assuming an 8 hour park day, you potentially free up 30% of your day using TimeSaver.

When Crowds are Moderate

Using June 2021 as our sample month for moderate crowds, we see the following reported average wait times (in minutes):

  1. Lighting Rod – 68
  2. Smoky Mountain River Rampage – 41
  3. Firechaser Express – 40
  4. Mystery Mine – 30
  5. Dragonflier – 21
  6. Tennessee Tornado – 13
  7. Thunderhead – 13
  8. Wild Eagle – 11

Using TimeSaver in this moderate crowd scenario potentially saves 237 mins or nearly 4 hours of waiting in line using TimeSaver.

Assuming an 8 hour park day, you potentially free up nearly 49% of your day using TimeSaver.

When Crowds are Heavy

Using March 2021 for our sample month for heavy crowds, we see the following average wait times –

  1. Lighting Rod – 83
  2. Mystery Mine – 50
  3. Firechaser Express – 46
  4. Dragonflier – 32
  5. Tennessee Tornado – 31
  6. Smoky Mountain River Rampage – 18
  7. Thunderhead – 18
  8. Wild Eagle – 11

Using TimeSaver in this heavy crowd scenario potentially saves 289 mins or nearly 5 hours of waiting in line.

Assuming an 8 hour park day, you potentially free up nearly 60% of your day using TimeSaver.

But Wait, There’s More

Our examples above utilized TimeSaver once per listed attraction. In real-life, I prefer to substitute Wild Eagle or Thunderhead for an additional ride on Lighting Rod. I then catch either Wild Eagle or Thunderhead early in the day before wait times typically build.

Following this “repeat” itinerary in a moderate crowd scenario potentially frees up nearly 5 hours of your day. In a heavy crowd scenario, you potentially free up a whopping 6 hours of your day.

Said another way, this TimeSaver itinerary can free up nearly 75% of your day in a heavy crowd scenario.

Bottom line

As a frequent user, even I was surprised by how much time the data shows I’m typically saving with TimeSaver. While anecdotal data is great, I hope I’ve given you a quantifiable understanding of just how valuable TimeSaver can be on your next visit. The bottom line is, it looks like TimeSaver truly does save you time.

…and lots of it.

If you’re interested in reducing your attraction waits by 2.5 to 6 hours, be sure to purchase TimeSaver ahead of your next visit to Dollywood. Also, if you’re headed to Dollywood’s Splash Country, check out TimeSaver H2O – a similar way to skip the lines at adjacent park’s water slide attractions.
